The British are a nation of complainers. Good old-fashioned cynicism is part of our collective psyche. As a true Brit, I can always find something to complain about, be it the endless rain or the travel chaos visited upon us by the Olympics. Complaining gets us off. It’s how we’re programmed. It is the British way.

But do not be fooled into thinking that this makes us a nation of pessimists...
