Glee, you know that I love you, but...

...if...

SPOILER FOR UPCOMING SEASON 4 EPISODE )

...then that will be the most unrealistic and ridiculously unbelievable story you have ever storied. Okay. Just saying.

Make the right choice, Glee. I believe in you.

p.s. SEASON FOUR IS THE GREATEST OF ALL THE GREAT THINGS EVER. FACT. Most days, I can hardly keep my overexcitement at a controlled and manageable level...

Story: Try This (PG-13)

A redraft of a story I posted a while ago: Everyone is eager to define Jake and Theo's relationship, except for the boys themselves.

I guess it's sort of an original slash story about...creating slash stories.

Theo had pulled all the pillows off the bed and made himself comfortable by piling them behind his back and beneath his outstretched legs. That was what Theo did; he took your stuff and cosied himself into it until it didn’t feel like yours anymore.

Breaking up in red and blue

It’s time to talk Glee. Wonderful, funny, clever, Brechtian Glee.

Season 4 is the best yet, in my opinion. I am loving every second of it and I feel as though the people who make it are really benefitting from the later time slot, the split narrative and from throwing off some of the fan expectations they were trying too hard to live up to last season.

I could write about a million and one things right now, but I’m going to stick to trend and flag up some red and blue signals, some foreshadowing and, as ever, the hardcore self-referencing that Glee so enjoys.

Cut for Glee Season 4 spoilers )

I’m so desperate for the next episode. SO DESPERATE. I want Quinn back. I miss her. Although I do enjoy Marley and Jake and Cassie and Isabel quite a lot.

GLEEEEEEEEEEEE.

“They never seem to be happy,” William, a thirteen-year-old participant in the study pointed out, “A lot of bad stuff happens to them.”

Hola

All my good intentions to update super regularly got swallowed up by the general busyness of my life for a while there. But I am now back in the saddle.

Things I have been doing:

1.) Working working working at my day job, which I complain about a lot but actually kind of love...

2.) Dragging my feet over bridesmaid duties...because I am literally the world's worst bridesmaid. This is me, right here:

3.) Visiting, and falling in love with, Berlin.

4.) Making plans to move into a wonderful flat in West Hampstead.

5.) Absolutely DEVOURING literary fiction.

6.) Chain-watching the new episodes of Glee. So far they are exceeding entirely all of my expectations, and only partly because of these faces:

7.) Tentatively getting my own writing back on track.

In short: it's good times right now. I'm looking forward to having time to post more regularly again. I HAVE MISSED THIS.

Stealing Sex

Between Julian Lasange and the battle for the Republican candidacy in the upcoming U.S. elections, there has been plenty of discussion in the media lately about consent and the definition of “legitimate rape”.

On the whole, I tend to feel that political debate and activism are better left to people who are more knowledgeable and less flaky than I am. But the language of rape is something I do know a thing or two about, and as I have clicked my way from one depressing online article to the next I couldn’t help thinking how familiar it all seemed...

Life in the Age of Tumblr

Not too long ago, I discovered the world of Tumblr. I’d been aware of it for a while, but had written it off as the domain of teenage hipsters looking to assert their identities through the endless lazy re-blogging of stuff made by other people.

(For the record, I still sort of think that’s what Tumblr is about…but now that I’m a part of it too, I’ve had to reconfigure my judgement into something more positive.)

Optimistic Reading: TDKR and London 2012

The British are a nation of complainers. Good old-fashioned cynicism is part of our collective psyche. As a true Brit, I can always find something to complain about, be it the endless rain or the travel chaos visited upon us by the Olympics. Complaining gets us off. It’s how we’re programmed. It is the British way.

But do not be fooled into thinking that this makes us a nation of pessimists...

Let's get it on

I've been total fail at posting in this journal recently, but that is hopefully all about to change!

I have a whole list of posts I want to make over the coming weeks and months, both fiction and non-fiction, which I'm really excited about. Here's a taste of what I've got planned...

FICTION

Redraft of 'Try This' (with extra oomph). Everyone is eager to define Jake and Theo's relationship, except for the boys themselves.

'Secret Heart'. A story about the gap between the face we present to others and the face we keep hidden.

'Having an Awesome Time'. Sometimes it takes too much courage to admit that things aren't working.

'History Now'. A ghost story. When neither fight nor flight is a viable option, we are left only with endurance.

'Party Like'. What would you do as you waited for the world to end, except party like there's no tomorrow?

NON-FICTION

Optimistic reading and the power of hope: 'The Dark Knight Rises', London 2012 and rejecting cynicism.

Feminism for girly girls: My favourite movies and why being a 'good girl' doesn't make you a traitor to the cause.

Wild Things and Tinkerbells: Childhood favourites that taught us how to be ourselves.

If God was one of us: Why I don't believe that art has to be moral.

I'll be making these posts to my Wordpress account, but will be linking from LJ/DW so that you can follow here if that's more your scene. You can also follow me on Twitter or on Tumblr.

If you are looking for Glee meta, those posts are archived on LJ.
